Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., May 13 reported receipts of 75 head of sheep and goats, compared to 963 head last week and 610 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold mostly steady on a light test. Slaughter ewes sold steady to $2 higher. Feeder lambs, comprised of all new crop lambs, sold steady. Buyer attendance was moderate with moderate to good demand. Receipts included about 56% slaughter ewes, 31% feeder lambs, 4% slaughter lambs and the balance was bucks, pairs and yearlings.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 12 head, 155 lbs., 90.00. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 17 head, 115 lbs., 110.00 new crop.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 10 head, 149 to 156 lbs., 27.00 to 31.00 (29.36); 8 head, 148 lbs., 35.00 gaunt; 55 head, 163 to 189 lbs., 25.50 to 32.50 (29.70). Good 2 to 4, 13 head, 182 to 193 lbs., 20.00 to 23.00 (22.28); 27 head, 237 lbs., 27.00. Utility and Good 1 to 2, 149 to 155 lbs., 22.00 to 25.50 (23.61); 164 to 177 lbs., 23.00 to 24.00 (23.25). Utility 1 to 2, 11 head, 144 lbs., 17.00; 14 head, 165 to 167 lbs., 18.00 to 20.00 (19.57). Cull 1, 110 to 118 lbs., 12.00 to 15.00 (13.26); 124 to 146 lbs., 10.00 to 17.50 (13.40).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 21 head, 44 lbs., 120.50; 9 head, 52 lbs., 115.00; 71 to 76 lbs., 115.50 to 119.50 (117.73); 90 to 93 lbs., 112.75 to 114.00 (113.28). Medium frame 1 to 2, 7 head, 68 lbs., 110.00 to 112.50 (111.43); 10 head, 74 lbs., 100.00. Medium frame 2, 19 head, 25 lbs., 97.00.
