OKC West livestock auction report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., May 14, reported receipts of 6,370 head, compared to 5,848 head last week and 7,286 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $3 higher, except steers over 900 pounds and heifers over 800 pounds were $2 to $4 higher. Demand again extremely good for feeder cattle. Steer calves were $4 to $8 higher. Heifer calves were $3 to $6 higher. Demand was good for calves but many thin long weaned calves included. Corn futures continue the lower trend for the week with the July contract back under the $6 mark. Several heavy weight feeders available off winter graze out pastures. The supply included 92% over 600 pounds and 28% heifers. Slaughter cows were firm to $4 higher. Slaughter bulls were $2 higher. Packer demand was very good with the Memorial Holiday just around the corner. A total of 320 cows and bulls sold with 74% going to packers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 425 lbs., 133.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 108.25 to 116.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 105.50 to 111.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 101.25 to 105.50; 900 to 975 lbs., 95.00 to 99.00; 1050 to 1075 lbs., 92.50. Medium and large frame 2, 400 lbs., thin 130.00; 500 lbs., thin 122.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 107.00 to 112.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 103.50 to 109.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 97.50 to 102.50; 900 to 985 lbs., 93.00 to 97.75.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, lot 625 lbs., 74.50; 820 lbs., 65.00; 825 lbs., fancy 75.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 108.00 to 116.50; few 525 to 575 lbs., 109.00 to 113.50; 645 to 700 lbs., 103.75 to 105.00; 725 to 800 lbs., 99.50 to 103.00; 800 to 825 lbs., 97.00 to 102.00; package 980 lbs., 91.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 500 to 550 lbs., 108.50 to 111.00; 645 to 700 lbs., 103.25 to 105.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 98.00 to 012.50; 800 to 825 lbs., 98.50 to 99.00; 900 to 930 lbs., 93.75 to 94.75. Boners, 21 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1575 lbs., 58.00 to 59.00; high dressing, 63.50; low dressing, 51.50 to 55.00. Lean, 37 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1350 lbs., 53.50 to 56.00; high dressing, 58.00 to 62.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 51.00. Lights, 50 head, 80 to 90% lean, 825 to 1000 lbs., 52.50 to 55.00; high dressing, 60.00; low dressing, 46.50 to 49.00; very low, 43.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 46 head, 1500 to 1775 lbs., 68.00 to 70.00; high dressing, 73.00 to 74.00; low dressing, 63.00 to 66.75.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heifers, 1050 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, high black 860.00; heifers, 900 to 950 lbs., 7 to 8 months bred, average black 850.00 to 885.00; 6 to 8 years old, 1300 to 1350 lbs., 5 to 7 months bed, average to high black 860.00 to 950.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 3 years old, 950 to 1050 lbs., with 100- to 250-lb. calves, average quality 1100.00 to 1225.00; 7 years old, 1075 lbs., with 200-lb. calves, average quality 1060.00.
