Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council announces 2008 convention dates

The 2008 Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council Convention will take place Nov. 7 and 8 in Omaha, Neb., at the Omaha Hilton Hotel.

The agenda is still being finalized, but preliminary planning calls for participants to receive the latest information on reproductive research and on-farm reproduction management. Once again, DCRC is calling upon the best and brightest researchers and reproductive experts to share new research about dairy reproduction, including economics, reproductive programs, genetics, health and nutrition.

This year's meeting will offer a preconference workshop, scheduled for 10 a.m., on the morning of Nov. 7. A featured speaker will discuss user-friendly software programs to evaluate reproductive programs, followed by sessions focused on DHI-Provo and DRMS. Each firm's representative will demonstrate how to assess reproductive status and accommodate customized A.I. breeding protocols.

Visit the newly redesigned website at www.dcrcouncil.org periodically for more information about the upcoming convention.

"Our second annual meeting drew a great group of dairy producers, nutritionists, veterinarians and industry professionals who wanted to learn about the latest reproductive research," explains Dr. Ray Nebel, senior reproductive specialist at Select Sires and president of the DCRC Executive Committee. "Producers and their consultants were able to have the latest research interpreted for them with options for protocols and recommendations discussed."

The Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council serves as an information resource for dairy producers, nutritionists and veterinarians. In addition, DCRC works to ensure that research in progress is economically viable for producers.

Sub-optimal reproductive performance in the nation's dairy industry has prompted leading industry stakeholders to be proactive in tackling this issue head-on. Academicians who focus on reproduction and allied industries that support the dairy industry joined forces to create the Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council to raise the level of knowledge on issues critical to enhanced reproductive performance. The DCRC has established a stakeholder network and education platform to raise awareness of management techniques that can enhance reproduction on dairy operations. This effort targets dairy producers and the consultants who influence reproductive management.
