CKD3 wheat plot tours May 23 in Saline County

K-State Research and Extension-Central Kansas District will host tours of two wheat plots in Saline County May 23.

The first tour will begin at 8:30 a.m., at the plots on the Mark and Brent Laas farm located two miles east of Brookville on Old 40 Hwy at Reese Rd. The plot contains 17 varieties.

The second tour will begin at 11 a.m., at the plots on the Vaughn Isaacson farm located one-fourth mile east of the I-135/Mentor Rd. exit 86 or one-half mile west of Mentor. The plot contains 17 varieties and a foliar fungicide demonstration.

A complimentary meal will be served at the Mentor Fire Station following the tour, courtesy of Phillips Seed Farms, Inc.

K-State Extension agronomists Stu Duncan and Jim Shroyer will discuss the agronomic strengths and weaknesses of the varieties in the plots. Extension plant pathologist Erick DeWolf will discuss wheat diseases in the 2008 wheat crop and disease ratings for varieties in the plot.
