Wyobraska cattle sales reportThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending May 3, totaled 3,500 head, compared to 2,200 head last week and 5,550 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to two weeks ago at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers sold $2 to $4 higher, instances were $5 to $6 higher on weights over 800 pounds. Overall quality was uneven. Demand was moderate to good. Heavier weight cattle were carrying average to moderate flesh. Direct trading was slow this week with no comparison available except for a few steers that were steady. Demand was light to moderate. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate on light offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 42% of the supply, heifers 58%, with 74% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1000 head of the total receipts.
