Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending May 3, totaled 3,500 head, compared to 2,200 head last week and 5,550 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to two weeks ago at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers sold $2 to $4 higher, instances were $5 to $6 higher on weights over 800 pounds. Overall quality was uneven. Demand was moderate to good. Heavier weight cattle were carrying average to moderate flesh. Direct trading was slow this week with no comparison available except for a few steers that were steady. Demand was light to moderate. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate on light offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 42% of the supply, heifers 58%, with 74% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1000 head of the total receipts.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 lbs., 125.00; 620 lbs., 117.50; 670 lbs., 98.50 to 100.00; 820 lbs., 90.50. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 725 to 750 lbs., 105.00 to 106.00; 800 lbs., 103.50; 875 lbs., 92.50. Delivered price, 475 lbs., 129.00; 925 lbs., 98.85.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 420 to 440 lbs., 114.50 to 119.00; 450 to 475 lbs., 103.00 to 117.50; 500 to 520 lbs., 109.00 to 115.50; 550 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 112.25; 600 to 650 lbs., 104.50 to 107.25; 650 to 690 lbs., 92.50 to 105.25, replacements 660 to 700 lbs., 109.00 to 111.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 92.00 to 101.50, replacements 700 to 800 lbs., 104.00 to 110.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 93.75 to 99.10, fleshy 880 to 890 lbs., 86.85 to 87.25; 915 to 950 lbs., 87.00 to 94.00, fleshy 925 lbs., 82.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 495 to 500 lbs., 105.00 to 110.00; 635 lbs., 99.50; 700 to 745 lbs., 89.50 to 90.00.
