Staples announces grant to expand Texas wine industry

Texas

Commissioner Todd Staples is pleased to announce the Texas Department of Agriculture has a new $250,000 wine grant program for farmers who wish to expand existing vineyard operations or start new ones.

"The Texas wine industry ranks fifth in the nation and contributes more than $1 billion annually to our state's economy, but it is critical to expand the industry and get even more grapevines in the ground," Commissioner Staples said. "These funds provide an incentive for producers to do just that."

The Wine Grape Investment Pilot Grant Program, housed under the Rural Economic Development Division, is the first of its kind at TDA. Applications will be accepted through June 6. For program details and eligibility requirements, producers are encouraged to visit www.tda.state.tx.us.
