Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls feeder pig auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 963 head May 6, compared to 900 head last week and 885 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady on a light test. Slaughter ewes sold $2 to $5 higher. The offering of feeder lambs was comprised of new crop lambs that sold steady to firm. Buyer attendance moderate with moderate to good demand. Receipts included about 48% slaughter ewes, 36% feeder lambs and 16% slaughter lambs.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 7 head, 122 lbs., 89.00. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 15 head, 130 lbs., 94.75 new crop. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 19 head, 126 lbs., 88.50; 34 head, 120 lbs., 89.00 hair sheep; 134 to 147 lbs., 88.50 to 88.75 (88.71). Wooled, Choice 3 to 4, 8 head, 184 lbs., 78.50.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 37 head, 154 lbs., 28.75; 163 to 184 lbs., 23.50 to 29.00 (27.19). Good 3 to 4, 19 head, 180 to 198 lbs., 19.00 to 23.50 (21.68); 200 to 209 lbs., 16.00 to 20.00 (18.02). Utility 1 to 2, 137 to 159 lbs., 19.00 to 23.00 (22.64). Cull 1, 118 to 145 lbs., 8.50 to 16.50 (13.04).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 11 head, 36 lbs., 126.00; 9 head, 46 lbs., 119.00; 52 to 57 lbs., 120.00 to 121.50 (120.86); 60 to 62 lbs., 116.50 to 120.00 (119.02); 80 to 89 lbs., 111.50 to 116.00 (112.64); 15 head, 85 lbs., 71.00 buck lambs; 11 head, 104 lbs., 108.00; 113 to 117 lbs., 87.00 to 92.50 (90.27). Small and Medium 1 to 2, 32 head, 88 lbs., 98.75.

Feeder kids: Selection 1, 7 head, 49 lbs., 107.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 7 head, 58 to 74 lbs., 31.00 to 39.00 (33.96); 122 to 126 lbs., 41.00 to 46.00 (44.83).
