Salina cattle auction report

The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 4,168 head May 1, compared to 3,925 head last week and 5,129 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers at 350 to 650 pounds were $1 to $2 higher, thin fleshed suitable for grazing were $3 to $7 higher, 650 to 800 pounds were weak to $2 lower, 800 to 950 pounds were $1 to $3 higher. Heifers 350 to 550 pounds were steady to $1 higher, 550 to 750 pounds were $2 to $4 higher, 750 to 900 pounds were firm to $1 higher. Trade was active. Demand was good. Receipts included 79% 600 pounds and over, 20% 600 pounds and under, and 1% slaughter cows. The feeder supply 54% steers and 46% heifers.
