Proceedings for 2008 ILC-USA availableProceedings from the 2008 ILC-USA, held in Denver in January, were made available on the Internet April 10. The 32-page proceedings include overviews of the workshops and panel discussions, as well as speaker contact information, and are available in a pdf format at www.nationalwestern.com on the International Center page or at www.theisef.com on the ILC-USA 2008 page. The ILC-USA 2008 was held during the most recent National Western Stock Show, and addressed the issues of global consumer demands which are placing new perspectives, requirements and procedures on US beef producers. Discussions were led by eight industry leaders, recognized for their knowledge, experience and vision of the global beef industry. The featured Global Consumer Demand Panel was moderated by Harry Knobbe, Harry Knobbe Feed Yards, West Point, Neb., and consisted of John Brook, regional director Europe, Russia and the Middle East, U.S. Meat Export Federation; Joel Haggard, senior vice president, Asia-Pacific, USMEF; John Lundeen, executive director market research, National Cattlemen's Beef Association and Homero Recio, COO, Agri-West International, Inc. The Response Panel, Producing for the Global Market, was moderated by Randy Blach, executive vice president, CattleFax, and consisted of Don Mackay, CEO, Australia Agricultural Company Unlimited, Miguel de Achaval, general manager, Cactus Argentina, S.A.; Gary Smith, PhD, university distinguished professor, Colorado State University and Dave Plett, president/CEO Western Feedlots, Alberta, Canada. The 2008 International Livestock Congress-USA was funded in part by the National Cattlemen's Foundation. The International Livestock Congress events, produced in cooperation with the International Stockmen's Educational Foundation and the National Western Stock Show, focus on providing solutions to US beef producers. The ILC-USA 2009 will be held Jan. 13 at the Renaissance Denver Hotel. Please watch both websites for further information to become available this summer.
