McAlester livestock sales reportThe McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,100 head May 6, compared to 1,500 head last week and 500 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were steady to $3 higher. Feeder cattle were firm. There was a good attendance of buyers and trade was active. Limited numbers were due to the rain. Cattle were in thin to medium flesh. Receipts included 48% steers, 46% heifers with 14% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady. Good attendance of buyers. Moderate interest in limited numbers of pairs and bred cows. A total of 225 cows and bulls sold with 55% to packers.
