Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 851 head May 5, compared to 642 head last week and 825 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were $6 higher. Feeder steers were $1 to $5 lower. Feeder heifers were uneven, mostly steady to $4 higher. The supply included 504 feeder calves, 195 feeder yearlings, 33 replacement cows, 102 slaughter cows, 15 slaughter bulls, and 2 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 29% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 1% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 60% steers and bulls with 40% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 47.00 to 51.50; high dressing, 52.00 to 56.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 44.00 to 48.50; high dressing, 49.00 to 53.50; low dressing, 39.00 to 43.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 50.00 to 55.50; high dressing, 56.00 to 60.50; low dressing, 45.00 to 49.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 65.00 to 69.50; high dressing, 70.00 to 74.50; low dressing, 60.00 to 64.50.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 348 lbs., 120.00; 418 to 435 lbs., 115.00 to 118.00 (116.97); 450 to 470 lbs., 113.00 to 117.00 (114.69); 500 to 545 lbs., 103.00 to 109.00 (106.52); 550 to 590 lbs., 105.00 to 111.00 (107.25); 607 to 642 lbs., 98.00 to 104.50 (102.61); 800 to 840 lbs., 89.00 to 95.50 (92.86); 892 to 897 lbs., 91.50 to 94.00 (93.80). Medium and large frame 2, 305 to 340 lbs., 111.00 to 115.00 (113.60); 350 to 390 lbs., 110.00 to 119.00 (112.74); 400 to 435 lbs., 105.00 to 111.00 (107.97); 450 to 495 lbs., 100.00 to 112.00 (107.53); 510 to 533 lbs., 100.00 to 104.00 (102.84); 550 to 595 lbs., 93.00 to 102.00 (98.31).
