Dalhart livestock sales report

The Cattleman's Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,551 head May 1, compared to 1,132 head last week and 1,058 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture Market News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds were steady, very firm undertone on feeders over 600 pounds compared to last week's limited offering. Slaughter cows and bulls were firm to $2 higher. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 250- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 20% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 1%, and feeders 78%. The feeder supply included 51% steers and 49% heifers, with nearly 32% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, three packages, 237 to 299 lbs., 150.00 to 167.50; 300 to 400 lbs., 135.00 to 141.00, package 327 lbs., 146.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 125.00 to 128.00, package 401 lbs., 135.00; two lots 567 to 598 lbs., 111.50 to 121.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 105.00 to 111.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 102.00 to 106.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 100.00 to 100.10. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 269 lbs., 155.00; few 300 to 400 lbs., 134.00 to 135.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 120.00 to 123.50, lot 464 lbs., full 117.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 110.00 to 116.00. Medium and large frame 2, lot 583 lbs., 97.00; package 717 lbs., 93.50.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, load 251 lbs., 137.50; few 300 to 400 lbs., 113.00 to 114.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 101.00 to 105.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 97.00 to 102.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 100.00 to 102.75, calves 95.00 to 98.50; package 726 lbs., 95.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 300 to 400 lbs., 109.00 to 110.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 99.00 to 100.00; lot 650 lbs., 96.00. Medium and large frame 2, package 358 lbs., 105.00; load 588 lbs., 94.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 80.00 to 80.50.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 54.00 to 58.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 54.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 59.00 to 60.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 51.50 to 57.00; low dressing, 47.00 to 49.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1600 to 1700 lbs., 55.75 to 56.75. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1300 to 1500 lbs., 53.50 to 55.25.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1100 to 1900 lbs., 62.00 to 68.50; high dressing, 1860 lbs., 76.00, individual.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 1100 to 1250 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 840.00 to 860.00 per pair.
