Clovis cattle auction reportThe Clovis Livestock Auction Co., Clovis, N.M., reported receipts of 2,079 head May 7, compared to 1,175 head last week and 707 head last year, according to the USDA-New Mexico Department of Agriculture Market News, Clovis, N.M. Compared to last month Holstein special, steers under 500 pounds not enough to establish a market trend, 500 to 600 pounds were $1 to $2 lower. Compared to last week, feeder steers under 600 pounds were steady, over 600 pounds were steady to $2 higher, most advance on over 700 pounds. Heifers were steady to $1 lower. Slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $3 higher. Trade was active and demand was good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows were 12% of the offering, slaughter bulls 2%, bred cows 2%, pairs 2%, and feeders 66%. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 56% of the run, Holstein steers 26%, feeder bulls 2%, heifers 16%, with 17% steers and heifers over 600 pounds.
