Amarillo livestock sales report

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 831 head May 6, compared to 551 head last week and 1,382 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were not enough for an adequate market price trend comparison due to the limited test last week, however a higher undertone was noted. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 higher compared to last week's limited trade. Slaughter bulls were not enough for an adequate test. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate. Slaughter cows made up 8% of the offering, slaughter bulls less than 1/2%, replacement cows 5% and feeders 86%. The feeder supply included 44% steers and 56% heifers, with nearly 82% weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 331 lbs., 137.00; package 465 lbs., 123.00; package 603 lbs., full 108.00, load 675 lbs., 108.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 106.00 to 108.50; package 881 lbs., 98.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 325 lbs., 124.00; package 495 lbs., 109.00; package 535 lbs., 110.00; package 668 lbs., 104.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 102.50 to 104.50; package 805 lbs., fleshy 91.50, package 864 lbs., 95.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, package 430 lbs., 105.00; package 743 lbs., 84.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 433 lbs., 107.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 95.00 to 100.00; package 650 lbs., 88.00; package 718 lbs., 86.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package 237 lbs., 124.00; package 315 lbs., 117.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 98.00 to 105.00; lot 612 lbs., 101.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 95.00 to 97.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 109.00 to 115.00; 485 to 500 lbs., 103.50 to 105.00; package 592 lbs., 99.00; 600 to 610 lbs., 93.00 to 95.00; load 784 lbs., 94.00; lot 822 lbs., 87.75.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1400 lbs., 55.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 52.00 to 56.00; high dressing, 56.50 to 57.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 47.00 to 52.50; high dressing, 54.00 to 56.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 45.00 to 47.50; high dressing, 52.00; low dressing, 41.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1600 to 1800 lbs., 67.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 950 to 1515 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 560.00 to 770.00 per head; aged, 1175 to 1280 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, 580.00 to 670.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young 1100 to 1200 lbs., with 150- to 250-lb. calves, 1110.00 per head; middle-aged, 1100 to 1400 lbs., with 100- to 350-lb. calves, 850.00 to 1180.00 per head; aged, 1150 to 1250 lbs., with 250- to 350-lb. calves, 880.00 per head; 950 to 1100 lbs., with 100- to 300-lb. calves, 650.00 to 690.00 per head.

Breeding bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, yearlings 1175 to 1340 lbs., 870.00 to 1175.00 per head.
