Wyobraska cattle sales reportThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending March 22, totaled 7,900 head, compared to 2,100 head last week and 7,650 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to two weeks ago at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds suitable for grass sold firm to $2 higher, weights over 600 pounds sold steady to $2 lower. Demand was good for grass cattle, moderate for feeder cattle. Direct trading slow with not enough sales reported for a good market test. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate on light offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 63% of the supply, heifers 37%, with 90% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1725 head of the total receipts.
