West Plains regional cattle sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,700 head March 25, compared to 1,970 head last week and 3,171 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 450 pounds unevenly steady to $2 higher, 450 to 800 pounds were $3 to $6 higher, over 800 pounds were $2 to $3 higher. Heifers under 600 pounds were $5 to $9 higher, over 600 pounds were $2 to $4 higher. The supply was moderate. Demand was good, with good buyer attendance making the higher quality weaned calves and light uniform yearlings having 1 to 2 rounds of shots continuing to capture the greatest attraction and ultimately the better ticket. However, demand for soft new to crop calves light to moderate and in most cases finding a much narrower outlet. The supply consisted of 51% steers, 9% Holsteins and 40% heifers, with nearly 43% weighing over 600 pounds.
