USDA responds to request, authorizes emergency use of CRP land for 100 Texas counties

Texas

After massive wildfires devastated several regions of Texas, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced authorization of emergency use of Conservation Reserve Program acres in 100 Texas counties.

"This is important news for Texas producers who lost forage acres and fencing in recent wildfires," said Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples. "We appreciate USDA's responsiveness to our call for help. This assistance will hopefully aid Texas producers on the long road to recovery."

Emergency use of land enrolled in CRP has been authorized for Andrews, Archer, Bailey, Brooks, Callahan, Coke, Comanche, Crane, Crockett, Dimmit, Duval, Edwards, Glasscock, Hidalgo, Howard, Jim Hogg, Kent, King, Knox, Kenedy, Kinney, LaSalle, Martin, Midland, Parker, Pecos, Real, Scurry, Starr, Sterling, Terrell, Val Verde, Willacy, Winkler, and Young counties as well as 65 adjoining counties.

Livestock may be temporarily moved to land enrolled in CRP for no more than 60 days, as approved by a Farm Service Agency county office, on a case-by-case basis. Only livestock producers who lost pasture or fences, due to wildfire are eligible to use the CRP acres.

For more information and eligibility requirements about USDA disaster assistance, contact the local FSA office. Eligible producers must request and receive FSA approval for emergency use of CRP acres by April 4.
