St. Onge livestock sales report

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,305 head March 21, compared to 603 head last week and 975 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to two weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers sold unevenly steady. Slaughter cows and feeder cows sold mostly steady with last week. Slaughter bulls too few to test. Buyer attendance moderate with moderate to good demand. Feeder receipts included 39% steers and 61% heifers, with 57% over 600 pounds. Receipts included about 80% feeder cattle, 7% slaughter cows and bulls, 6% bred cows, 5% feeder cows and the balance was breeding bulls.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 10 head, 447 lbs., 133.00; 7 head, 485 lbs., 129.00; 25 head, 491 lbs., 116.00 fleshy; 515 to 520 lbs., 130.00 to 131.00 (130.85); 557 to 588 lbs., 115.00 to 118.25 (116.86); 6 head, 631 lbs., 108.50 fleshy; 663 to 678 lbs., 112.25 to 114.50 (112.64); 16 head, 813 lbs., 88.00; 861 to 864 lbs., 85.50 to 87.50 (86.58). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 9 head, 479 lbs., 121.50; 20 head, 623 lbs., 108.00. Medium frame 1, 17 head, 673 lbs., 100.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 363 lbs., 124.00; 32 head, 448 lbs., 114.00 fleshy; 479 to 496 lbs., 116.00 to 121.00 (120.34); 17 head, 549 lbs., 111.50; 550 to 592 lbs., 105.50 to 116.00 (109.34); 7 head, 601 lbs., 105.00; 605 to 635 lbs., 104.50 to 106.50 (105.72) replacement; 651 to 689 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00 (102.85); 24 head, 654 lbs., 106.50 replacement; 12 head, 723 to 746 lbs., 90.00 to 90.75 (90.51); 708 to 735 lbs., 94.75 to 97.50 (96.13) replacement; 13 head, 815 to 846 lbs., 86.50 to 87.00 (86.73). Medium frame 1, 8 head, 601 lbs., 100.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1, calving now, 11 head, 3 to 5 years old, 1288 lbs., 1200.00.

Feeder cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 4 years old, 935 to 1045 lbs., 71.50 to 81.50; young, 917 to 1045 lbs., 61.00 to 65.50; middle aged, 53.00 to 54.00. Large frame 1, 1400 to 1440 lbs., 52.50 to 55.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1305 to 2005 lbs., 52.00 to 55.00; high dressing, 57.00; low dressing, 50.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1205 to 1545 lbs., 51.00 to 54.50; high dressing, 56.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1010 to 1470 lbs., 49.00 to 54.00; high dressing, 55.50; low dressing, 43.00 to 48.00; 90% lean, 1055 lbs., 40.75.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1250 to 1985 lbs., 61.00 to 67.50; low dressing, 58.00 to 58.50.
