Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 570 head March 24, compared to 1,114 head last week and 560 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls S.D.

Compared to last week, not enough slaughter or feeder lambs for an applicable market trend. Slaughter ewes sold steady to firm. Light receipts following holiday weekend and many producers busy in lambing barns. Receipts included 93% slaughter ewes, 5% feeder lambs, 1% slaughter lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 5 head, 138 lbs., 92.25. Good 2 to 3, 12 head, 141 to 142 lbs., 27.00 to 29.00 (28.00); 161 to 182 lbs., 25.00 to 29.50 (27.69). Good 2 to 4, 182 to 191 lbs., 20.00 to 24.50 (20.62). Good 3 to 4, 10 head, 202 to 248 lbs., 16.00 to 21.50 (18.26). Utility 1 to 2, 141 to 158 lbs., 14.00 to 22.50 (17.23); 161 to 178 lbs., 14.00 to 22.00 (18.71). Cull 1, 134 to 139 lbs., 8.50 to 12.50 (9.88).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 63 lbs., 106.00; 7 head, 84 lbs., 109.50. Medium and large frame 2, 6 head, 42 lbs., 83.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 13 head, 50 to 52 lbs., 117.00; 25 head, 78 lbs., 98.00; 20 head, 91 lbs., 86.00. Selection 1 to 2, 19 head, 38 lbs., 101.00; 50 head, 42 lbs., 103.50. Selection 2, 8 head, 51 lbs., 81.00.
