Joplin regional cattle sales

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 4,500 head March 24, compared to 5,500 head last week and 7,823 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 650 pounds were $2 to $4 higher, heifers under 650 pounds were $1 to $3 higher, exception 450 to 600 pounds were fleshy, new crop steer calves were steady. Steers over 650 pounds were steady to $2 higher, heifers over 650 pounds were steady. Demand and supply was moderate. Calf offering included both thin, weaned and fleshy, un-weaned calves. Yearlings in medium to fleshy condition. Sunshine and dryer weather more suited for receiving grazing cattle. The feeder supply included 46% steers, 45% heifers, 5% bulls, with 51% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 123.00 to 135.00, fleshy 119.00 to 120.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 115.00 to 125.00, lot 507 lbs., thin 129.00, fleshy 104.00 to 115.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 101.00 to 116.00, calves 96.50 to 112.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 96.00 to 104.50; lot 811 lbs., 97.00; 900 to 930 lbs., 86.00 to 90.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 123.00 to 136.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 115.00 to 131.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 109.00 to 119.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 101.00 to 110.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 92.00 to 99.50, fleshy 90.00 to 96.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 84.00 to 93.50; 945 to 975 lbs., 84.00 to 85.00.

Feeder Holstein steers: Large frame 3, package 479 lbs., 83.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 73.00 to 84.00; 600 to 660 lbs., 72.00 to 72.50; lot 708 lbs., 72.10, lot 703 lbs., fleshy 65.00; lot 804 lbs., 65.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 112.00 to 117.00, fleshy 105.00 to 109.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 101.00 to 114.00, fleshy 100.00 to 108.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 99.00 to 107.00, fleshy 95.00 to 98.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 90.00 to 102.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 86.50 to 91.25; 800 to 850 lbs., 83.00 to 85.00.
