Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 508 head March 24, compared to 701 head last week and 673 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $1 to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $2 lower. Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $3 higher. The supply included 300 feeder calves, 113 feeder yearlings, 39 replacement calves, 47 slaughter cows, 9 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 30% Brahma and Brahma crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 57% steers and bulls with 43% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 41.00 to 45.50; high dressing, 46.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 36.00 to 40.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 46.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 55.50; low dressing, 41.00 to 45.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 60.00 to 64.50; high dressing, 65.00 to 69.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 345 lbs., 135.00 to 141.00 (139.62); 350 to 388 lbs., 130.00 to 138.00 (133.76); 400 to 445 lbs., 123.00 to 134.00 (128.68); 450 to 495 lbs., 120.00 to 131.00 (122.96); 500 to 530 lbs., 115.00 to 126.00 (120.17); 550 to 593 lbs., 108.00 to 116.00 (112.72); 605 to 638 lbs., 105.00 to 109.00 (107.00); 701 to 740 lbs., 95.50 to 100.00 (97.97). Medium and large frame 2, 355 to 395 lbs., 110.00 to 128.00 (118.75); 435 to 440 lbs., 110.00 to 115.00 (113.66); 450 to 495 lbs., 90.00 to 115.00 (109.88); 535 to 545 lbs., 105.00 to 113.00 (109.34).

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 7 years old, 800 to 1100 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves 680.00 to 810.00 per pair.
