Ft. Smith livestock auction reportThe Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 508 head March 24, compared to 701 head last week and 673 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark. Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $1 to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $2 lower. Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $3 higher. The supply included 300 feeder calves, 113 feeder yearlings, 39 replacement calves, 47 slaughter cows, 9 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 30% Brahma and Brahma crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 57% steers and bulls with 43% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis. Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 41.00 to 45.50; high dressing, 46.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 36.00 to 40.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 46.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 55.50; low dressing, 41.00 to 45.50. Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 60.00 to 64.50; high dressing, 65.00 to 69.00.
