Colorado feeder cattle sales

The Colorado Auction Feeder Cattle Summary, Greeley, Colo., March 21, reported 4,261 head, compared to 7,960 head last week and 7,309 head last year, according to the USDA-Colorado Department of Agriculture Market News, Greeley, Colo.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves weighing under 600 pounds sold steady to $3 lower instances were $5 lower. Yearling feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $1 lower. Demand was moderate to good for all classes, greatest interest in cattle over 600 pounds. Buyer interest shifted slightly from grass ready cattle this week as the volatility of the corn complex stabilized faintly. Yearling cattle became more attractive as corn declined and seasonal auction numbers continued to taper off. The supply was made up of 50% feeder steers, balance feeder heifers, with about 55% of total feeder supply over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 350 to 400 lbs., 132.00 to 135.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 117.50 to 139.00, mostly 122.50 to 135.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 116.00 to 137.50, mostly 119.00 to 132.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 110.50 to 138.00, mostly 110.50 to 121.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 109.50 to 132.50, mostly 109.50 to 119.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 107.00 to 115.50, calves 110.00 to 119.25; 650 to 700 lbs., 102.50 to 108.75, calves 109.50 to 113.75; 700 to 750 lbs., 98.00 to 110.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 95.00 to 97.25; 800 to 850 lbs., 90.00 to 96.00; 915 lbs., 90.50.
