Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Feb. 23, totaled 8,500 head, compared to 2,200 head last week and 9,100 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers sold generally $3 to $4 higher. Demand was moderate to good. Direct trading was slow with not enough sales reported for a good market test. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate on light offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 65% of the supply, heifers 35%, with 80% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1430 head of the total receipts.
