OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 9,052 head Feb. 27, compared to 6,064 head last week and 7,975 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $1 to $2 lower, 9 weights holding steady. Feeder heifers were steady to $3 higher. Demand was moderate to good for all classes. Stocker steers and steer calves were steady to $3 lower. Stocker heifers and heifer calves were steady. Feeder cattle in medium to fleshy conditions off wheat. Weigh-ups were average to full. The supply included 81% over 600 pounds, 15% under 600 pounds, 4% cows and bulls. Receipts included 31% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $2 lower. Packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 330 cows and bulls sold with 48% going to packers.

Lean, 56 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1050 to 1400 lbs., 52.50 to 55.50; low dressing, 45.00 to 52.00. Lights, 22 head, 80 to 90% lean, 875 to 1000 lbs., 44.00 to 49.00; very low, 36.00 to 40.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 21 head, 1300 to 2450 lbs., 65.50 to 69.50; high dressing, 71.00 to 74.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 65.00; very low, 57.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heifers, 700 to 800 lbs., 7 to 8 months bred, average blacks, 780.00 to 840.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1150 to 1250 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average quality, 710.00 to 790.00; 9 to 10 years old, 1000 to 1350 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, low to average quality, 530.00 to 680.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 5 years old, 1275 lbs., with 275-lb. calves, average blacks, 1180.00.
