Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 559 head Feb. 21, compared to 285 head last week and 1,348 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter ewes sold steady to $2 lower. Feeder lambs were lightly tested so trends were not applicable. Receipts were comprised of about 14% feeder lambs, 31% slaughter ewes and bucks with the balance bred ewes and pairs. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 179 to 183 lbs., 23.75 to 24.25 (24.03). Good 3 to 4, 202 to 208 lbs., 18.00 to 18.25 (18.09). Utility and Good 1 to 3, 22 head, 160 lbs., 23.25. Cull 1, 132 to 136 lbs., 9.25 to 10.00 (9.91). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 81 to 86 lbs., 107.50 to 109.50 (109.10); 25 head, 116 lbs., 88.25 ewe lambs; 15 head, 113 lbs., 87.50 fleshy. Slaughter bucks: 13 head, 209 lbs., 17.50 fleshy. Bred ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 81 head, 2 years old to solid, lamb March 1, 180 lbs., 122.00 per head; 26 head, 2 to 4 years old, lamb April 23, 173 lbs., 117.50 per head; 104 head, solid to short term, lamb March to April, 153 to 183 lbs., 77.50 to 85.00 per head.
