Goldthwaite sheep sales

High Plains weighted average direct slaughter cattle sales for the week ending Feb. 22, totaled 1,955 head of sheep and goats, compared to 1,391 head last week and 2,772 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder lambs had no comparison due to limited test last sale. Heavy weight slaughter lambs were $3 to $5 higher, light weights were steady. Stocker and feeder goats were not tested. Slaughter goats were $5 to $10 higher. Demand was good. The supply included round 40% sheep including near 550 lambs. Prices per CWT unless specified.

Stock and feeder: Lambs, Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 80 to 105 lbs., new crop 109.00 to 114.00. Dorper ewes, 80 to 140 lbs., 52.00 to 86.00; 70 to 90 lbs., ewe lambs 90.00 to 118.00. Barbados bucks, 100.00 to 250.00 per head.

Slaughter lambs: Choice, 90 to 120 lbs., 70.00 to 94.00. Prime 2 to 3, few 85 to 110 lbs., 110.00 to 114.00. Good and Choice 1 to 3, 50 to 80 lbs., 115.00 to 133.00.

Slaughter bucks: 140 to 205 lbs., 46.00 to 50.00.

Slaughter goats: Kids, Selection 1, 40 to 60 lbs., 130.00 to 154.00; 60 to 80 lbs., 135.00 to 152.00, few to 155.00. Selection 2, 60 to 80 lbs., 124.00 to 135.00. Nannies, Selection 1, 80 to 120 lbs., 35.00 to 48.00, few to 50.00. Billies, 90 to 200 lbs., 80.00 to 90.00. Muttons, Selection 1, 90 to 120 lbs., 85.00 to 90.00.

Replacement goats: Nannies, Selection 1, 70 to 120 lbs., 50.00 to 75.00. Billies, Selection 1, 90 to 160 lbs., 90.00 to 115.00.
