Wyobraska cattle sales

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending March 15, totaled 2,100 head, compared to 10,330 head last week and 5,550 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers were not well tested. Demand was moderate to good. Direct trading was slow with not enough sales reported for a good market test. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate on light offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 63% of the supply, heifers 37%, with 97% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1725 head of the total receipts.

Steers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 525 lbs., 115.00; 670 lbs., 106.00; 830 lbs., 81.50; 900 lbs., 82.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 725 lbs., 102.50; 840 to 850 lbs., 94.50 to 98.75.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 410 lbs., 119.00; 720 lbs., 90.00; replacement 700 to 730 lbs., 105.00 to 107.75. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 825 lbs., 91.50.
