St. Onge livestock sales

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D, reported receipts of 603 head March 14, compared to 1,709 head last week and 1,720 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were lightly tested, therefore trends were not applicable. Feeder and slaughter cows sold mostly steady. Slaughter bulls sold $2 to $3 higher. Demand was moderate to good. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 20% of the offering, feeder cows 10%, feeders 35% with the balance mostly bred cattle. The feeder supply included 73% steers and 27% heifers, with 3% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 12 head, 397 lbs., 142.00; 11 head, 417 to 419 lbs., 129.00; 450 to 493 lbs., 124.00 to 128.00 (126.43); 12 head, 540 lbs., 120.50; 6 head, 597 lbs., 112.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 430 lbs., 111.00; 14 head, 455 lbs., 113.00. Medium and large frame 2, 5 head, 385 lbs., 107.00.

Feeder cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 4 years old, 830 to 1100 lbs., 73.00 to 79.00; young, 1075 lbs., 63.50; middle aged, 1075 to 1335 lbs., 52.50 to 55.50; aged, 1150 to 1350 lbs., 49.00 to 52.00. Large frame 1, 1400 to 1600 lbs., 51.75 to 53.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1380 to 1800 lbs., 52.50 to 53.00; high dressing, 59.00; low dressing, 49.00 to 51.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1075 to 1400 lbs., 51.00 to 53.00; high dressing, 54.00 to 55.50; low dressing, 44.00 to 48.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1025 to 1400 lbs., 45.00 to 47.50; low dressing 40.50 to 44.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1525 to 2370 lbs., 65.00 to 67.25; high dressing, 69.00 to 71.00.

Bred heifers: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, bred black, calve March to May, price per head; 60 head, 1120 to 1140 lbs., black-black whiteface-red 1135.00 to 1150.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, bred black, calve March to May, price per head, 5 head, 1085 lbs., 3 to 4 year old, black-black whiteface 985.00; 9 head, 1083 lbs., broken, black 550.00.
