Sioux Falls sheep saleThe Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,114 head March 17, compared to 939 head last week and 824 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to firm on a snowy day. Good slaughter ewes sold $1 to $2 higher. Cull ewes sold $1.50 lower. Feeder lambs too few in any weight group for an accurate test, however a lower undertone was noted. Offerings of slaughter lambs stood dry over night as they came in ahead of the snow and displayed weigh-up in buyer's favor. Receipts included about 50% slaughter lambs, 29% slaughter ewes, 16% feeder lambs and 5% bucks. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 19 head, 139 lbs., 96.25. Shorn, Choice 2 to 3, 36 head, 120 lbs., 85.00. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 119 to 121 lbs., 95.00; 142 to 145 lbs., 92.75 to 93.25 (92.92); 14 head, 150 lbs., 92.50. Wooled Choice and Prime 3 to 4, 33 head, 141 lbs., 88.75 full; 155 to 173 lbs., 81.75 to 87.00 (86.48). Slaughter ewes: Good 1 to 3, 5 head, 148 lbs., 33.00. Good 2 to 3, 143 to 159 lbs., 19.00 to 23.00 (21.09); 12 head, 160 to 171 lbs., 23.00 to 25.00 (23.64). Good 2 to 4, 176 to 198 lbs., 20.00 to 30.00 (25.86); 206 to 243 lbs., 25.50 to 29.00 (27.28). Good 3 to 4, 11 head, 221 lbs., 22.50. Cull 1, 122 to 139 lbs., 7.00 to 12.00 (9.68).
