North Arkansas cattle sales

The North Arkansas Livestock Auction, Green Forest, Ark., reported receipts of 358 head March 19, compared to 1,968 head last week and 801 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter bulls were not tested. Feeders sold $4 to $7 lower, instances were $10 lower on a light test in a few classes. There was a light run due to 5 to 7 inches of rain in the area. The supply included about 324 feeder calves, 55 yearlings, 3 replacement or feeder cows, 27 slaughter cows, 1 slaughter bulls, 3 replacement bulls. The feeder supply included about 17% over 600 lbs., 31% steers, 1% Holsteins, 36% heifers, and 32% bulls. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 45.00 to 48.00; high dressing, 50.00 to 53.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 42.00 to 47.00; high dressing, 47.50; low dressing, 30.00 to 32.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 30.00 to 37.50; high dressing, 44.00 to 47.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 64.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 600 to 600 lbs., 100.00 (100.00). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 393 to 393 lbs., 121.00 (121.00); 477 to 477 lbs., 115.00 (115.00); 573 to 573 lbs., 110.50 (110.50); 772 to 772 lbs., 91.00 (91.00). Medium and large frame 2, 445 to 445 lbs., 112.50 (112.50); 676 to 676 lbs., 95.00; 720 to 720 lbs., 85.00 to 90.00 (86.67).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 323 to 323 lbs., 110.00; 377 lbs., 105.00; 418 to 435 lbs., 100.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 330 lbs., 105.00; 548 lbs., 93.00; 656 to 677 lbs., 85.00 to 86.00 (85.80). Medium and large frame 2, 300 to 310 lbs., 97.50 to 120.00 (108.93); 375 to 385 lbs., 95.00 to 100.50 (99.42); 400 to 432 lbs., 85.00 to 100.00 (95.01); 451 to 495 lbs., 92.50 to 95.00 (94.66); 732 lbs., 77.50.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 7 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., with 200- to 400-lb. calves, 1075.00 to 1275.00 per pair.
