Grain Sorghum Board directorships open for appointmentNebraska Two directorships to the Nebraska Grain Sorghum Development, Utilization and Marketing Board are open for appointment by Governor Dave Heineman this July. The filing deadline for appointment to the Grain Sorghum Board is 5 p.m., June 2. Vacancies open for Governor-appointment include: District #1--Gage, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee and Richardson counties District #6--Dawson, Dundy, Hitchcock, Red Willow, Furnas, Harlan, Franklin, Webster, Adams, Kearney, Phelps, Gosper, Frontier, Hayes, Chase, Perkins, Keith, Lincoln, Arthur, McPherson, Logan, Grant, Hooker, Thomas, Cherry, Kimball, Cheyenne, Deuel, Scotts Bluff, Banner, Morrill, Garden, Sioux, Box Butte, Sheridan and Dawes counties Any grain sorghum producer interested in appointment may place his or her name on the candidacy list for the respective districts by filing a petition with the Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board. Qualified individuals residing in the above-named counties will be eligible. Qualified candidates include those who are citizens of Nebraska, are 21 years of age, have been actually engaged in growing sorghum in Nebraska for a period of at least five years, and derive a substantial portion of their income from growing grain sorghum. A candidacy petition must carry the signature of at least 50 resident-growers of the district for which the candidate is applying. Petitions can be obtained by writing to the Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board, P.O. Box 94982, Lincoln, NE 68509; by phoning 402-471-4276 or by e-mail at sorghum-bk@email.state.ne.us. The Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board administers the one cent per hundredweight checkoff on sorghum sold in the state.
