Cleavinger picked for NAWG presidencyThe National Association of Wheat Growers' Board of Directors finalized a new slate of officers at its meeting March 1, picking David Cleavinger from Wildorado, Texas, for the NAWG presidency. Cleavinger is a fifth-generation Texas farmer and rancher whose crop production has included wheat, corn, grain sorghum, seed milo, sorghum silage, cotton and sugar beets along with stocker cattle. He has held a variety of agriculture-related leadership positions and holds a degree in agriculture business and economics from West Texas A&M University. Cleavinger and his wife, Jackie, have two children, one of whom has returned to the farming operation. Other officers elected to new positions include: --Karl Scronce, first vice president, Klamath Falls, Ore. --Jerry McReynolds, second vice president, Woodston, Kan. --Wayne Hurst, secretary-treasurer, Burley, Idaho --John Thaemert, immediate past president, Sylvan Grove, Kan. NAWG officers typically "run the chairs" for five years after being selected as secretary-treasurer, though they all must be interviewed and recommended by the NAWG Nominating Committee and approved by the NAWG Board of Directors on an annual basis. The NAWG Board meeting was held at the end of the 2008 Commodity Classic, the annual convention and trade show of the American Soybean Association, the National Corn Growers Association and NAWG. Further information about NAWG committee and Board actions and other Classic events will be included in the NAWG's Report from Washington, published March 7. 3/24/08 Date: 3/14/08 Advertisement
