Arkansas livestock summary news

The weekly summary of livestock sales in Arkansas for the week ending March 13, showed estimated receipts of 9,065 head, compared to 7,234 head last week and 10,297 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows sold $2 lower. Slaughter bulls sold steady to $2 lower. Feeders sold weak to $3 lower, most decline on weights over 600 pounds. Lightweight cattle suitable for grazing met with best demand. The supply was composed of 4,930 stocker and feeder calves, 2,395 feeder yearlings, 910 replacement cows, 720 slaughter cows and 110 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply included 47% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 46.00 to 52.00; high dressing, 52.00 to 54.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 48.00 to 54.00; high dressing, 54.00 to 61.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 48.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 44.00 to 50.00; high dressing, 50.00 to 57.75; low dressing, 37.00 to 44.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 34.00 to 40.00; high dressing, 40.00 to 46.00; low dressing 25.00 to 34.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 60.00 to 67.00; high dressing 67.00 to 76.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 60.00.
