Wyobraska cattle sales reportThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions forth week ending March 8, totaled 10,330 head, compared to 1,550 head last week and 7,525 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to two weeks ago at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers over 550 pounds and feeder heifers over 500 pounds sold steady to $2 lower, instances $3 lower, light weight feeders suitable for grass sold $2 to $6 higher in a light test. Demand was moderate to good. Direct trading slow with not enough sales reported for a good market test. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate on light offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 45% of the supply, heifers 55%, with 62% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2220 head of the total receipts.
