St. Onge livestock sales report

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,709 head March 7, compared to 2,30 head last week and 543 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder steers sold $2 to $5 lower. Feeder heifers sold steady to weak and feeder cows sold $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter cows were not well tested. Slaughter bulls sold $1 to $2 lower. Demand was moderate to good. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 2% of the offering, feeder cows 15%, feeders 60% with the balance mostly bred cattle. The feeder supply included 49% steers and 51% heifers, with 56% of the run over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 9 head, 472 lbs., 140.00; 536 to 548 lbs., 122.00 to 129.00 (128.69); 8 head, 592 lbs., 119.00; 13 head, 625 to 642 lbs., 109.00 to 113.00 (112.40); 109 head, 623 lbs., 120.75 to 122.00 (121.77) value added; 651 to 667 lbs., 113.00 to 113.50 (113.44); 705 to 730 lbs., 104.00 to 105.00 (104.89). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 522 lbs., 128.00; 553 to 595 lbs., 111.00 to 115.00 (113.83); 7 head, 657 lbs., 103.00 calves; 704 to 728 lbs., 92.50 to 100.50 (99.33).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 11 head, 397 lbs., 128.00; 466 to 490 lbs., 120.00 to 130.50 (124.73); 513 to 545 lbs., 116.50 to 118.50 (118.07); 43 head, 567 lbs., 114.50; 600 to 644 lbs., 104.00 to 108.00 (106.59); 7 head, 682 lbs., 98.00; 16 head, 710 to 730 lbs., 92.00 to 93.75 (93.30); 10 head, 779 lbs., 88.50; 15 head, 762 lbs., 88.00 fleshy; 766 to 774 lbs., 775.00 to 835.00 (809.44) per head. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 9 head, 501 lbs., 118.00; 9 head, 591 lbs., 102.00; 620 to 642 lbs., 97.50 to 103.00 (101.96); 686 to 695 lbs., 94.00 to 96.00 (95.30).

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 639 lbs., 94.50 calves.

Feeder cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heiferettes, 985 to 1100 lbs., 80.00 to 84.00; 3 to 4 years old, 885 to 1080 lbs., 71.00 to 79.00; young, 980 to 1225 lbs., 58.00 to 66.00; middle aged, 1050 to 1350 lbs., 53.00 to 56.00; aged, 1050 to 1275 lbs., 49.00 to 52.00, few 48.00 to 48.50. Large frame 1, 1400 to 1550 lbs 48.50 to 53.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1790 to 1950 lbs., 56.50; low dressing, 51.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 52.50; high dressing, 56.50; low dressing, 44.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1280 lbs., 46.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1600 to 2345 lbs., 62.00 to 65.25; low dressing, 56.00 to 60.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, bred black, calve March-April, price per head, 101 head, 1175 to 1350 lbs., 3 to 5 years old, black 1200.00 to 1350.00; 150 head, 1300 to 1450 lbs., solid, black-red 875.00 to 1095.00; 140 head, 1200 to 1400 lbs., broken, black-red 700.00 to 835.00.
