Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls Sheep Auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 939 head March 10, compared to 823 head last week and 963 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to firm on a light test. Good and Utility slaughter ewes were too few last week to make an accurate comparison, however a definite lower undertone was noted. Cull ewes sold $4 lower. Feeder lambs were too few last week to establish a trend. Receipts included about 45% slaughter ewes, 25% slaughter lambs, 22% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks and bred ewes.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 11 head, 147 lbs., 94.25. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 121 to 127 lbs., 94.50 to 96.25 (95.72). Wooled, Choice and Prime 3 to 4, 11 head, 145 lbs., 89.75; 8 head, 157 lbs., 90.00. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 37 head, 120 lbs., 88.50.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 152 to 158 lbs., 16.00 to 19.00 (18.03); 163 to 194 lbs., 15.00 to 18.00 (16.38). Good 2 to 4, 5 head, 158 lbs., 28.00; 164 to 184 lbs., 20.50 to 29.00 (23.51); 10 head, 217 to 249 lbs., 25.00 to 27.00 (25.73). Utility 1 to 2, 144 to 156 lbs., 13.00 to 15.00 (13.33). Cull 1, 111 to 141 lbs., 8.00 to 14.00 (11.34).

Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 15 head, 55 lbs., 131.50; 5 head, 68 lbs., 121.50; 23 head, 76 lbs., 113.50; 6 head, 70 lbs., 105.50 fleshy; 20 head, 95 lbs., 110.25. Medium 1 to 2, 21 head, 80 lbs., 94.00; 44 head, 80 lbs., 85.00 fleshy.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 35 head, 33 lbs., 107.00; 9 head, 41 to 42 lbs., 103.00 to 105.00 (104.32); 7 head, 50 lbs., 106.00; 16 head, 61 to 64 lbs., 108.00 to 110.00 (108.65); 36 head, 75 lbs., 98.00. Selection 1 to 2, 5 head, 66 lbs., 84.00; 5 head, 74 lbs., 84.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 87 to 128 lbs., 53.00 to 58.00 (54.45); 17 head, 130 lbs., 54.00.

Feeder kids: Selection 1 to 2, 25 head, 48 lbs., 30.00 thin.
