Revenue insurance a good option for sunflowers

The spring Revenue Assurance level for sunflower is official at $31.70 for oils and $34.20 for confections. RMA did adjust the multi peril price selections for sunflower recently as well. Oil types are now $26.10 and confections are $28.60. That is an increase of about $8.00 over the initial announcement. However, in most cases the RA option will likely offer the better protection of the two.

Tim DeKrey, president of the NSA board of directors says that this is the best RA protection he has ever had.

"Farmers who have been out of sunflower for a few years really need to take a close look at sunflower for 2008 based on this protection and the lucrative new crop options," DeKrey said.

He stressed that farmers should include sunflower as a crop option as they finalize their sign up plans with their agents.

"At least having sunflower as an option at sign up provides planting flexibility as we go into the spring season," DeKrey said.
