Qualisoy welcomes new board members, elects '08 officers

Qualisoy recently welcomed several new farmer-leaders and industry representatives to its 2008 board of directors. Qualisoy directors help lead the drive from a single commodity soybean to include higher-value, specialized varieties that assure the global competitiveness of U.S. soy. Greg Anderson, a fifth-generation soybean farmer from Newman Grove, Neb., was re-elected to his position as Qualisoy chairman to lead the board in accomplishing this mission.

"As a soybean industry initiative, Qualisoy relies on the diversity of its members and their dedication and collaboration to help it grow," Anderson said. "The Qualisoy board has a unique opportunity to work together in partnership with industry. Together, we can identify future traits that will benefit farmers by allowing us to better serve our food and feed customers. I am confident we will maintain and increase the competitiveness of the U.S. soybean industry."

At the Feb. 1 board meeting, the board announced several new members who bring their value and experience to the table: Bob Collette; president, Institute of Shortenings and Edible Oils; Bob Earl, MPH, RD, LD; senior director for nutrition policy, Grocery Manufacturers of America; Tedd Kruse; VP, North American food oils, ADM; Phil Miller, PhD; VP, U.S. technology development, Monsanto.

The board also welcomed three new farmer-leaders from the United Soybean Board and one new state soybean association executive: Jason Bean; Holcomb, Missouri; Richard Fordyce; Bethany, Missouri; Jim Stillman; Emmetsburg, Iowa; John Lumpe; executive director, Ohio Soybean Association.

Qualisoy is a collaborative effort among the soybean industry to help market the development and availability of trait-enhanced soybeans and soybean oil, reduce environmental impacts of livestock production through improved soybean meal, and improve the global competitiveness of the U.S. soybean industry. A diverse 22-member Qualisoy Board of Directors sets research priorities, evaluates existing and emerging technologies, and sets quality standards for traits, products and processes.
