OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 6,087 head March 12, compared to 7,867 head last week and 7,425 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $1 to $3 lower. Stocker steers and steer calves were steady to $3 higher. Heifers over 650 pounds were $1 to $3 higher, under 650 pounds were $3 to $5 higher. Demand was very good for weights and conditions suitable for grass, moderate for other classes. Plainer end of feeder cattle in the mix indicating we are near the end of the March feeder run. Feeder cattle were in medium to fleshy conditions with average to full weigh-ups and few gaunt. Calves and stockers were in thin to moderate flesh conditions. The supply consisted of 80% over 600 pounds, 16% under 600 pounds, 4% cows and bulls. The total head count included 30% heifers. Slaughter cows were unevenly steady. Slaughter bulls were steady. Packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 222 cows and bulls sold with 57% going to packers.

Boners, 33 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1350 lbs., 54.50 to 57.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 59.50; low dressing, 48.50 to 51.00. Lean, 14 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1400 lbs., 52.50 to 53.50; high dressing, 55.00 to 58.50; low dressing, 47.50 to 51.00. Lights, 15 head, 80 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 47.50 to 51.50; high dressing, 52.50 to 56.00; low dressing, 43.50 to 46.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 16 head, 1400 to 2250 lbs., 67.50 to 70.00; high dressing, 70.00 to 72.50; low dressing, 63.00 to 66.50; very high, 74.00 to 77.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 to 7 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 770.00 to 840.00; 10 years old, 1050 to 1275 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality, 620.00 to 760.00.
