McAlester cattle sales report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,750 head March 11, compared to 1,425 head last week and 1,695 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $2 lower. Demand was good on all classes. Quality was plain to average. Weigh-ups were average. Flesh conditions were medium. The supply included 56% heifers and 51% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady. A total of 275 cows and bulls sold with 47% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 11 head, 417 to 448 lbs., 127.00 to 133.50 (129.86); 8 head, 471 to 493 lbs., 121.50 to 124.00 (122.25); 12 head, 513 to 533 lbs., 118.50 to 122.00 (120.41); 13 head, 575 to 585 lbs., 112.50 to 115.50 (113.66); 14 head, 617 to 629 lbs., 106.50 to 108.00 (107.50); 8 head, 687 lbs., 102.00; 5 head, 751 lbs., 93.50; 18 head, 835 to 848 lbs., 88.50 to 89.50 (89.06). Medium and large frame 2, 14 head, 415 to 442 lbs., 115.50 to 121.00 (117.96); 9 head, 475 to 490 lbs., 117.00 to 120.00 (118.76); 7 head, 562 to 598 lbs., 108.00 to 111.00 (110.10); 5 head, 600 to 638 lbs., 104.50 to 105.00 (104.81); 9 head, 660 to 695 lbs., 93.50 to 101.00 (97.08); 9 head, 702 to 743 lbs., 89.50 to 94.50 (92.02).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 9 head, 375 to 395 lbs., 113.50 to 116.50 (114.95); 15 head, 400 to 440 lbs., 111.00 to 115.00 (113.25); 13 head, 459 to 470 lbs., 105.00 to 110.00 (109.22); 11 head, 500 to 505 lbs., 97.00 to 104.00 (101.09); 5 head, 557 lbs., 102.00; 18 head, 614 to 625 lbs., 94.00 to 96.00 (94.95); 659 to 696 lbs., 92.00 to 92.25 (92.24). Medium and large frame 2, 18 head, 504 to 538 lbs., 95.00 to 104.00 (99.22); 15 head, 551 to 598 lbs., 91.50 to 96.50 (93.84); 7 head, 701 lbs., 87.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 30 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1600 lbs., 54.00 to 56.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 53.00. Boners, 40 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1400 lbs., 54.00 to 56.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 59.00; low dressing, 49.00 to 53.00. Lean, 30 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 50.00 to 52.00; high dressing, 54.00 to 58.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 48.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 20 head, 1300 to 2265 lbs., 66.00 to 69.00; high dressing, 72.00 to 79.00; low dressing, 61.00 to 65.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 years old, 1020 lbs., 7 to 8 months bred, high blacks, 970.00; 3 to 5 years old, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average black mix, 770.00 to 810.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 7 years old, 900 to 1000 lbs., with 150- to 175-lb. calves, average blacks, 960.00 to 1130.00.
