Huron cattle sales report

The Bales Continental Commission Co., Huron, S.D., reported receipts of 2,710 head March 11, compared to 2,868 head last week and 2,728 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder steers up to 800 pounds sold steady to $3 higher, feeder steers at 800 pounds and over sold unevenly steady. Feeder heifers sold steady with a lower undertone on the heavy heifers. Demand was good with many load lots in the offering. Price was driven by quality and flesh. Many good heifers of breeding quality went back out into the country. Steers comprised 57% of the run, heifers 43%, with 86% of the run was over 600 pounds.
