Denison feeder cattle sale

The Denison Feeder Cattle Auction, Denison, Iowa, reported receipts of 2,987 head March 6, compared to 3,013 head last week and 2,229 head last year, according to the Iowa Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Des Moines, Iowa.

This was a special preconditioned feeder cattle sale. The sale was billed as the back to grass special and the cattle were in light flesh and the quality was good. Compared to last week steer calves were $3 to $4 higher, heifers were $5 to $7 higher. Heavier feeder cattle were under pressure with a steady to $2 lower market on feeders over 750 pounds. Receipts included 61% feeder cattle over 600 pounds, 51% heifers and 49% steers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 16 head, 433 to 446 lbs., 130.00 to 134.00 (131.47); 450 to 498 lbs., 127.00 to 134.25 (131.42); 503 to 547 lbs., 123.00 to 127.00 (125.58); 559 to 596 lbs., 116.25 to 126.75 (122.59); 16 head, 562 lbs., 134.50 fancy; 603 to 644 lbs., 117.00 to 123.50 (119.85) calves; 653 to 699 lbs., 110.75 to 118.75 (112.87) calves; 703 to 740 lbs., 103.50 to 112.00 (108.22); 753 to 782 lbs., 95.25 to 103.00 (100.98); 805 to 838 lbs., 94.00 to 100.50 (98.01); 5 head, 862 lbs., 99.00; 9 head, 908 to 915 lbs., 95.00 to 99.00 (96.34); 953 to 965 lbs., 94.25 to 98.50 (94.84). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 8 head, 382 lbs., 131.00; 560 to 565 lbs., 112.00 to 113.00 (112.53); 610 to 637 lbs., 108.00 to 109.00 (108.16) calves; 650 to 677 lbs., 106.25 to 108.25 (107.53) calves; 720 to 739 lbs., 90.00 to 95.50 (92.23); 5 head, 936 lbs., 90.00.
