Burlington captures Sweepstakes title at Altus FFA Interscholastics

A long haul to Southwest Oklahoma paid off for Burlington FFA members as they earned the Chapter Sweepstakes Award at the Altus FFA Interscholastics contest Feb. 2. Seventeen Burlington FFA members competed in a variety of career development events, earning the points necessary to receive the sweepstakes award.

The Senior Parliamentary Procedure team took home first place honors with team members Ben Hudgens, Keenan Hoffman, Brian Gosselin, Lacey Newlin, Desi Guffy and Kyle Spade. The Junior Parliamentary Procedure team also captured first place with team members Samantha Smith, Sarah Armbruster, Ashley Armbruster, Amber Allen, Delissa Hoffman, Staci Stewart, Jeanna Richter and Lizzy Guffy.

Sarah Armbruster received first place in both the Natural Resources and 8-9-10 General Agriculture Speaking Division. Ben Hudgens placed first in the Agribusiness Speech Division and second in the Ag Policy Speech Category. Samantha Smith earned first place in the Ag Policy Speech Division and second in the 8-9-10 General Ag Category. Thomas Allen was the third high individual in the Extemperanaeous Speaking Division. Amber Allen placed 4th in both the Natural Resources and 8-9-10 General Ag Speaking Divisions. In the FFA Creed Contest, Staci Stewart and Taylor Shrum advanced to the Finals with Shrum receiving third overall and Stewart placing 4th overall.

Congratulations to all Burlington FFA members on their much deserving awards and good luck as the Spring Speech and Parliamentary Procedure season rolls around.
