Area ag students compete at GCCCKansas Approximately 68 Southwest Kansas high school students active in Future Farmers of America recently attended the 2008 Southwest District FFA Career Development Competition at Garden City Community College. The event consisted of contests in different categories, including senior speech, junior speech, extemporaneous speech and agricultural sales, according to Amanda Worthington, GCCC animal science instructor and coordinator for the event. Teams competing came from Scott City, Garden City, La Crosse, Deerfield, Cimarron, Ness City, Holcomb, Satanta and Dighton High Schools. At the end of the Feb. 7 competition, Scott City earned first in agriculture sales, with Garden City taking second place and Holcomb third. Jessie McNatt, Garden City, received first in senior speech, Eric Stephans, Dighton, second place, and Anna Yeager, Scott City, third place. Schuler Hahn, Garden City, received first place in junior speech, Amanda Parks, Holcomb, second place, and Ally Oborny, LaCrosse, third place. In extemporaneous speech Austin Davis, Scott City, received first place, JD Heitschmidt, Garden City, second place, and Kiesha Scott, Scott City, third place. 3/17/08 Date: 3/13/08 Advertisement
