Amarillo livestock sales

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,219 head March 11, compared to 879 head last week and 3,143 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, there was no good price trend comparison available on feeder steers and heifers due to last week's limited test. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were not well established. The bulk of the limited supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 5% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 10% and feeders 84%. The feeder supply included 44% steers and 56% heifers, with nearly 81% weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 300 to 400 lbs., 140.00 to 143.00; small lot 421 lbs., 137.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 105.00 to 110.25; 800 to 860 lbs., 93.00 to 94.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 460 lbs., 120.00; few 695 lbs., 101.00; few 700 to 800 lbs., 91.50 to 93.50; package 842 lbs., 90.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, package 446 lbs., 100.00; package 516 lbs., 101.00; 675 to 700 lbs., 94.00 to 97.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 300 to 400 lbs., 113.00 to 118.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 99.00 to 106.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 94.00 to 97.25; 700 to 800 lbs., 91.00 to 94.25; 800 to 875 lbs., 83.00 to 88.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 364 lbs., 111.00; 400 to 475 lbs., 106.00 to 111.00; few 500 to 600 lbs., 99.75 to 101.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 93.00 to 96.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 50.00 to 54.00; high dressing, 58.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 52.00 to 57.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 47.00 to 53.00; high dressing, 55.00 to 57.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 45.00 to 50.50; 85 to 90% lean, under 800 lbs., 36.00 to 43.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1500 to 1900 lbs., 65.00 to 71.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 2 to 7 months bred, 600.00 to 880.00 per head, individual 1225 lbs., 8 months bred, 1000.00 per head; aged, 1000 to 1450 lbs., 2 to 8 months bred, 600.00 to 720.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 900 lbs., with 100-lb. calf, 720.00 per pair; middle-aged, 1000 to 1200 lbs., with 150- to 300-lb. calves, 770.00 to 1110.00 per pair; aged, 900 to 1000 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 650 to 850.00 per pair.
