West Plains regional sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 635 head March 4, compared to 2,918 head last week and 6,500 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, cattle were too few in most classes and weight ranges for an adequate price comparison. However, the weather-related market looked steady to $3 lower, with light 350- to 450-weight calves in weaned or grassy condition fully steady. The supply was very light, as 2 to 4 inches of early snowfall kept the farm to market livestock movement and most buyers at bay. Demand was moderate and contributed to the light run. The supply consisted of 51% steers and 49% heifers, with nearly 41% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, small package 323 lbs., soft/fleshy 117.50, lot 397 lbs., thin 138.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 123.00 to 128.00, lot 416 lbs., thin 136.50; 600 to 650 lbs., 105.00; few singles 700 to 705 lbs., 95.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2 340 to 400 lbs., 128.00 to 135.00, 400 to 500 lbs., 120.00 to 128.50, few thin near 400 lbs., 132.50 to 137.00; 500 to 535 lbs., 115.00 to 120.00; lot 31 head, 641 lbs., 108.00, package 6 head, 694 lbs., 100.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 94.00 to 98.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 91.00 to 95.00. Medium and large frame 2, small package 320 lbs., thin 134.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 117.50 to 129.00, package 7 head, 493 lbs., thin 120.00; lot 560 lbs., thin 114.00; package 640 lbs., 105.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 320 to 340 lbs., 112.50 to 115.00, few thin 121.50 to 125.50; package 413 lbs., 112.50, some 420 to 430 lbs., thin 111.00 to 112.50; package 610 lbs., fleshy 91.00; lot 37 head, 672 lbs., 95.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, couple packages 278 to 356 lbs., thin 111.00 to 112.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 105.00 to 112.50; 535 to 600 lbs., 97.25 to 100.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 90.00 to 98.50; lot 703 lbs., 90.00; small package 813 lbs., 88.00.
