Springfield livestock salesThe Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 1,554 head Feb. 27, compared to 3,622 head last week and 1,987 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers were steady to $3 lower, Holsteins were $1 to $2 higher, heifers were steady to $2 lower. Demand and supply were moderate. Overall quality was not as high as the previous sale. Weigh-ups were average to full with several un-weaned calves in the mix. Temperature starting to moderate but record February rainfall has made it difficult to feed or gather cattle. The feeder supply included 30% steers, 15% Holsteins, 46% heifers, 9% bulls, with 41% over 600 pounds.
