Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls feeder pig auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 940 head March 3, compared to 648 head last week and 385 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, wooled slaughter lambs sold mostly steady, with instances of $1 higher. Good and Utility slaughter ewes were too few to test. Cull slaughter ewes sold $4 to $5 lower. Feeder lambs were too few to test. A high percentage of feeder lambs went to the slaughter plants for the upcoming holiday seasons. Receipts included about 54% slaughter lambs, 35% slaughter ewes, with nearly 7% bred ewes and pairs and the balance was feeder lambs and bucks.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 26 head, 124 lbs., 97.25. Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 123 to 128 lbs., 94.50 to 95.75 (94.95). Wooled Choice and Prime 3 to 4, 155 to 161 lbs., 82.00 to 86.75 (85.40). Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 92 to 108 lbs., 96.25 to 106.50 (100.86); 117 to 129 lbs., 88.25 to 94.50 (89.56); 131 to 138 lbs., 90.00 to 90.25 (90.18). Wooled Choice 3 to 4, 30 head, 99 lbs., 83.00 hair sheep. Wooled Good and Choice 1 to 3, 30 head, 59 lbs., 127.50.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 16 head, 138 to 153 lbs., 29.50 to 30.50 (30.11); 161 to 180 lbs., 29.00 to 31.00 (30.38). Good 2 to 4, 188 to 192 lbs., 27.00 to 29.00 (28.06); 9 head, 207 to 208 lbs., 27.75 to 29.50 (28.92). Utility 1 to 2, 16 head, 151 to 159 lbs., 20.00 to 22.00 (20.89); 18 head, 166 to 171 lbs., 21.00 to 25.00 (23.92). Cull 1, 122 to 150 lbs., 14.25 to 17.25 (15.92).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 7 head, 45 lbs., 129.00; 10 head, 105 lbs., 93.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 47 to 49 lbs., 118.00 to 128.00 (125.40); 52 to 56 lbs., 130.00 to 142.50 (138.54); 8 head, 61 lbs., 140.00. Selection 1 to 2, 15 head, 54 lbs., 103.00; 11 head, 68 to 69 lbs., 120.00 to 126.00 (122.20); 10 head, 76 lbs., 111.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 7 head, 78 lbs., 71.50; 18 head, 87 to 107 lbs., 53.00 to 53.50 (53.38).
