Salina livestock sales report

The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 4,448 head, Feb. 28, compared to 3,709 head, last week and 2,486 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers at 300 to 550 pounds were steady, 550 to 650 pounds were $1 to $2 lower, 650 to 800 pounds were $2 to $3 higher, and 800 to 950 pounds were steady to $1 lower. Heifers, a few at 300 to 450 pounds were steady, 450 to 550 pounds were $2 to $4 higher, 550 to 700 pounds were steady to $1 higher, and 700 to 850 pounds were steady. Trade was active. Demand was good. Receipts included 84% 600 pounds and over, 15% 600 pounds and under, less than 1% slaughter cows. The feeder supply included 62% steers and 38% heifers.
