Pratt livestock sales report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt Kan., reported receipts of 5,338 head, Feb. 28, compared to 3,420 head, last week and 4,826 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture-Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, steers at 300 to 600 pounds were steady, 600 to 800 pounds were steady to $2 higher, 800 to 900 pounds were steady to weak, and 900 to 1000 pounds were weak to $2 lower. Heifers at 300 to 600 pounds were steady to $3 higher, and 600 to 950 pounds were steady to firm. Trade was active, demand was good. Slaughter cows were $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $3 higher. Receipts included 84% 600 pounds and over, 12% 600 pounds and under, 4% cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 62% steers and 38% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 62.00 to 64.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 53.00 to 58.00; high dressing, 59.00 to 61.00; low dressing, 47.00 to 52.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 66.00 to 71.00 (68.80); low dressing, 62.00 to 64.00 (62.59).
